The pre-season game between Kings Hill FC and AFC Mottingham ended in a 2-2 draw. The 90-minute game was split into three 30- minute thirds.
The game started off with the teams feeling each other out and a very possession based means of football. Right from the start the KHFC Goal Keeper was barking orders to the back three.
The first talking point came around the ten minute mark into the game where a long ball was played over the defence to AFC Mottingham's number 10, Kane Rice came off his line to close the attacker down, only just making a connection with the ball before taking out the attacker. The ref awarded a corner and after fierce argument from the opposition the referee stuck to his call and gave a corner that was then cleared by the KHFC defence.
Kings Hills defence was clearly shocked by the early penalty scare, just minutes later as Mottingham's number 10 was again through one on one with Kane Rice in goal. Rice was quick off his line, made himself big and managed to force the attacker to miss an easy conversion and hit the inside of the post.
Kings Hill finally got a sight of goal as George Hawkins sent a driven pass to the right flank for the ball to be scuffed into the box by Kings Hills number (2) Kieran Sutton with Kings Hill's Richard Sinden (10) improvising a shot on goal but narrowly passing the wrong side of the right post.
The first goal for AFC Mottingham came when the AFC Mottingham winger (7) was taken down in the box by Kings Hills Daniel Melvin (8) with a miss timed last ditch tackle, resulting in a penalty on the stoke of half time. Mottingham's number 10 converted calmly sending goalkeeper Kane Rice the wrong way, as Mottingham celebrated the referee blew the whistle to bring the first 30 minutes to a close.
Kings Hill came out of the blocks quickly in the second 30 minutes. An attack down the right hand side resulted in a corner that didn't scare the defence of AFC Mottingham. AFC Mottinghams Second goal came against the run of play when a simple direct ball over the top of the Kings Hill defence saw AFC Mottingham's number 10 again latch on to a ball that the defence of Kings Hill were unable to clear due to a lack of communication.
The helpless goal keeper Kane Rice was beaten by a simple slot in from about 10 yards making it 2-0 to the away team with about 50 minutes played. Kings Hill had their best chance of the game when a half volley from the edge of the center circle by center back Lee Jay Reilly (6) hit the crossbar, from nowhere it left the visiting teams goalkeeper stranded but still able to tip the ball onto the crossbar.
Finally after many attempts on goal and consistent pressure Kings Hill eventually started their comeback, a ball down the left to Kings Hills Cameron Croucher (3) was crossed in and deflected into the Mottingham goal, the comeback was on and the belief that Kings Hill could score another was reinstated in the minds of the players.
Kings Hill's Charlie Belcher (7) had a pass played into his feet, he dropped his shoulder which allowed him and the ball to go past the defender only to tee himself up for a shot that went sky high over the goal and out of the pitch.
From out of nowhere Kings Hill's Richard Sinden (10) received the ball from a Mottingham clearance in the last third, leaving him in a one on one position and calmly slotting the ball into the goal to equalise just before the 60-minute mark. The teams go into the final 30 minutes equal at 2-2.
As both teams came back out for the final 30 minutes a poor start and two visually tired teams created many incomplete passes leading to swift changes of attack and defence for both teams.
After a facial injury leading to some interaction with the medical staff on the side of the pitch and a number of substitutions AFC Mottingham managed to restart with 12 players shortly to be dealt with by Mottingham's player Manager number 18.
The final event of the game fell to Mottingham's number 16, a ball was thread through the defence resulting in a shot that Kane Rice tipped onto the post for it to roll across the goal line, sadly the attacker couldn't keep his balance and fell to the floor like a sack of potatoes.
